Guardian Angels

Episode 31: "What the Future Holds"

Boxing day in Hollywood was always extremely busy. Especially at the banks. The year was no different than the rest. People stood in line at the bank calmly waiting their turn to pick up shopping money. For Silvia Baker, however, things were a little different. She didn't have any money. But, she did have three kids and an incredible ability. As she wandered into the bank, she did so casually. She wore a smile on her face as she glanced around the large bank, realizing her plan was going to work flawlessly. Without missing a beat, she walked right up to the first teller she could get. "And what can I do for you today?" the woman asked.

"You can give me all the money in the bank for starters," Silvia ordered. Instantly the bank security began to approach her. Instantly she pulled out a tranquilizer gun and shot all the guards as quickly as she could. "Now, the money, please."

"But the police are on their way. You won't get away with this," said the teller.

"On the contrary, you are going to give me the money, and I will walk right out the front door with the money. I've got three beautiful children at home and it has been a while since they've had a Christmas with presents and this suit wasn't cheap," the human woman said.

"Why didn't you spend money on presents instead of the suit?" asked one of the other people at the bank.

"I stole the suit. Look, I really don't want to hurt anyone. Hence why I'm using a dart gun. Now give me the money," Silvia demanded.

As she was speaking, a sole police car pulled up outside and two police officers entered the bank. "Police, ma'am. Drop your weapon and put your hands in the air," the officer said nonchalantly.

"Oh, but Rick, it's your daughter's birthday. You really should be spending time with her. And as for you, Frank, I will just put you to sleep now because you're a bad cop," Silvia said and quickly put a dart in one of the two cops.

"How did you know it was my daughter's..." Rick asked.

"Because I'm psychic," said the robber.

"There's no such thing," argued the cop.

"If that's true, then you should be able to hit me with your taser without any problem," challenged Silvia.

Seeing as that was a good point, the cop whipped out his taser and fired. Silvia easily caught it with a smirk. "Now for more proof: the boy with the game system will loose the current game, toss the machine on the floor. His mother will scold him and he'll start to cry. There's a woman to my right who will trip and give herself a nasty bruise, but it's fine she's used to it 'cause she's a bit of a cluts. Then there's the Genoid teller over there. He's brother and sister were both killed in a anti-Genoid protest but he's too scared and noble to take any time off of work to attend their funerals. The majority of those in here are supporters of Genoid rights, but only just. And, to top all that off, a cell phone will go off with a ridiculously embarrassing tune that someone's roommate put on there as a joke."

As soon as she stopped speaking, a boy nearby tossed his handheld game system on the floor, cursing it for loosing. His mother quickly scolded him while a phone on the other side of the room started playing a lesbian song and a nicely dressed woman quickly answered it, quietly cursing her roommate.
Holy crap, she's a real psychic," commented one of the Genoid tellers.

Saipia picked at her Chinese lunch with a custom pair of chopsticks that were given to her as a gift. Across from the table from her were Erica and Layta. They were talking amongst themselves while the older wolf blue-furred wolf listen intently. The only reason Saipia was there in the first place was because Layta and Erica were discussing wedding details and they both wanted her there since she would be paying for the wedding. At that particular moment, however, the younger white wolf and leopard were heatedly discussing Erica's current gender. "You missed your appointment, Eric. How do you expect me to feel?" Layta argued while Saipia took a sip of her green tea.

"I missed the appointment because I was busy with my job. Besides, you promised me you were going to come with me but you had to work. And I DID reschedule the appointment for next week," countered Erica. "And my name is Erica!"

"That is the name my mother gave you when you became a hermaphrodite," Layta said.

"And why is it that you have such a major problem with my being a hermaphrodite?" questioned the feline.

"Mmm..." Saipia chimed in, swallowing a dango. "That one, I can answer. Layta, like her dear mother, has a bit of OCD. It's not so much that she has an issue with you being a hermaphrodite, it's that, to her, it seems a little cluttered, and disorganized, especially since you were once a boy. That, and she's not bisexual like me. It would bug her to stare at your breasts while having sex. To her it's probably feel like she was married to a woman."

"Wait, you're not bisexual?" Erica asked.

Layta shook her head. "Nope. I can't believe you didn't know that."

"What do you mean? You slept with me. You're the only woman I've slept with that was bisexual," Erica spat.

"Just how many women have you slept with, anyway?" asked Layta.

"Perhaps you shouldn't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to," Saipia commented sipping her tea.

"Well, it's obviously more than Mom," Layta responded as she leaned back in her seat.

Erica sighed and rubbed her temples. "That's another thing I'm still trying to wrap my head around: having you as my mother-in-law. That also means twice the OCD, huh?"

Saipia and Layta nodded in unison. "But marriage means a lot of sacrifice and compromise. It's how you show you love one another. You're lucky, Layta. It took me a good forty years to find someone who was willing to put up with my OCD."

"That's not true. Seems like Isan would have if you'd given her the chance," Layta replied.

Saipia held out a hand and tilted it back and forth. "Kinda. To be honest, my OCD always drove her nuts and her messiness drove me nuts. However, the only time I've ever seen her clean up as she cooks is when she was cooking for Layta and I and when she's on her TV show. And, it really didn't take her that long to get married to a nice young man after I kept turning down her advances."

"Isan was married? I always thought she was too infatuated with you to get married to anyone else," Erica questioned.

"She was married for a good thirty years, actually. However, her husband died a few years ago from cancer. Whatever you do, do NOT bring that up EVER around Isan. She cried a LOT when he died and her current interest in me is only to cover the grief in her heart," explained Saipia.

"Doesn't Aunt Isan have a couple kids our age?" Layta asked.

Saipia nodded. "Yes, she does." The phone in Saipia's pocket suddenly rang with a police siren, alerting her that work was calling. "This is Commander Saipia of the Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team, how may I help you?" there was a short pause as the person on the other line explained the situation at the bank.

"Ah. Very interesting, but I don't really see how any of this is my jurisdiction. I'm only in charge of Genoid related matters." More explanation from the other side. "Alright, but you get to do the paperwork on this one. You know the chief is going to wonder why I was involved."

The person on the other side of the conversation finished saying what they wanted and Saipia hung up the phone. "Alright, Layta and Erica. I've got a little bit of consulting to do, but we can all continue discussing wedding details when I get home tonight."

"If there ever is a wedding," said Layta.

Saipia casually pulled her police cruiser up in front of bank and nonchalantly got out. Walking up to the captain who was in charge of the operation, she said, "So what kind of consult do you need me for, exactly? And it have better be good as it pulled me from lunch with my daughter."

"Sorry about that. But apparently we've got a psychic bank robber. She says she's going to walk out of here scott-free," said the bald captain.

"A psychic, huh? I only know of two actual psychics. They are very rare. So, before I give a consult, I want to test her out," commented Saipia and she quickly entered the bank before anyone could object.

"You're the one who called her, Paul," remarked an officer.

"I know. There's no better problem solver that I know of than her," said the captain.

As soon as Saipia entered the bank, Silvia greeted her with a smile. "Well, it doesn't look like you're that dangerous. I mean, no one's seems to be even remotely afraid of you," said the wolf.

"Don't worry, Commander, I have no intention of harming anyone. I'm sorry you had to leave the nice lunch with your daughter," said Silvia.

"Yeah, same here. So, tell, when exactly is my daughter's wedding?" asked Saipia who stood a a good twenty feet from Silvia.

Silvia looked a little bewildered by the question. "I cannot see that far into the future. I do not know of any psychic who can."

Saipia smiled pleasantly at that. "What's your trigger?"

Again, the robber stared at her blankly. "I do not know what that is."

"Alright. So tell me about my husband," Saipia ordered.

"You don't have a husband. You did have a fiance, but he died shortly after you got pregnant with your daughter," said the psychic.

"Alright. Good. Now that I know you're really a psychic, you should know that you're not getting out of here free and clear. What you see is one possible future. It is important to know the difference between that you see in someone's future and what will actually happen. The future is carved in stone, and God can always throw you curve balls you didn't expect," warned the Genoid.

Once again, Silvia gave her an odd look. Saipia simply shrugged off the look and turned back towards the door. "There is only one future for everyone," said Silvia.

"And that single belief is why your little plan will fail," said Saipia who quickly left.

"So, you find out what you need to?" asked the captain.

Saipia nodded quietly as she dialed a number into her phone. "Hey, Lyst, if you're not too busy, would you and your granddaughter come down to the First National Bank...Alright, see you soon."

"You're calling for backup?" the human questioned.

"Nope. My own psychics. Far more powerful than the one in there. Think of it as fighting a match with a flamethrower," replied Saipia.

"I never thought you'd be calling on our help, Sai," said Ginger as she and her grandmother walked up to the waiting Saipia.

"I try my best not to get you Fifteen involved in cases. However, for this one, I figured you two would be quite useful. There is a psychic holding up the bank. However, she can't see that far into the future and she doesn't use a trigger. She also believes that the future she sees is only one," replied Saipia.

"Silvia Baker. She was a student of mine once," said Lyst. "She married an bastard of a husband. Now she has no money for presents for her children."

"I do NOT see any of this turning out well for her," Ginger replied.

"Right. She's already going to jail for robbing the bank. I don't see how she could save herself now," Saipia agreed. "Anyway, if you two would join me, I think we should have a nice long talk with Silvia."

The two tigers nodded in unison and the three women quietly entered the bank. Silvia was a little shocked to see Lyst. "You! But you should be dead by now."

"Yeah. She is the tenth Genoid. She is one of the oldest of us, as well. If it makes you feel better, I've died six times. And, this current life is the longest I've gone without dying," Saipia commented as she got together three chairs.

""I do not think you have met my granddaughter, Ginger. She is the most powerful psychic I know," Lyst introduced.

"She can see past, present and future just by looking at someone," added Saipia.

"And I can already see your future. The best thing for you to do right now is give up and let yourself get arrested. There is no other way for you to get out of here alive. Don't make your children loose their mother forever," said Ginger.

"What are you talking about? I'm going to make it out of here alive an not in jail," Silvia argued.

"No, you're not. Even I can see that," Saipia remarked.

Silvia searched her future and it had changed significantly. "Crap! You ruined everything!" she screamed at Saipia.

"I have done nothing to you. Your plan was doomed from the start. The only person you've got to blame for your own stupidity is yourself," said the canine officer.

"No! My plan was flawless. I saw it. But then you had to show up and bring your stupid psychics. I just wanted money for presents," argued the human.

"There are several places you could have gone to get free presents. I buy several toys each year to donate to them. And, ironically, your kids will now be getting some of those presents in the orphanage they're going to," said Saipia.

Siliva sighed heavily, knowing there was no escape. "I suppose I could get a reduced sentence if I plead insanity. But then I'd never see my kids again."

"Well, considering that you haven't killed anyone, you could simply say it was a prank and walk away with a fine and some jail time for obstruction of justice," Lyst replied.

"Yeah. She could. That's probably the best option. Although, if she doesn't have the money to buy presents, she definitely won't be able to afford the fine she'll get. But, there are options for that, too. I can even give you the number a good attorney," agreed Saipia.

"Well, it's not like I've got much of a choice, huh?" Silvia commented as she held out her gun.

Saipia silently took the weapon and handed it off to Ginger. The officer then promptly handcuffed the woman and lead her from the bank. "Wow. That was fast," remarked the Captain.

"Yeah. Turns out it was just a big prank. But, you'll have to do the paperwork. I am going back to the precinct. Lyst, Ginger, I will talk to you two later," replied Saipia.

"Right, and congratulations, Saipia," Ginger called out as everyone went their separate ways.

"For what?" the wolf questioned.

"You'll find out in a couple days. I wouldn't want to get in hot water with anyone from your family," commented the tigress.

"Hey, not everyone from my family is as bitchy as I am," Saipia half scolded.

"Whatever, Sai. You've never seen your daughter pissed," Ginger commented.

"Actually, I have. She and Erica have been arguing lately," defended the wolf.

Ginger smiled. "Eric will make a great husband for Layta."

After briefly stopping by the precinct, Saipia returned home to find Erica and Layta still arguing. Gjai was busy watching a movie and completely ignoring the two. "...ith that many people," Layta commented.

"Right. You still can't get mad at me for sleeping with people when you're not a virgin either. Besides you and I have only recently started dating," commented Erica as the two continued to prepare that evening's meal.

"But, I've never gotten pregnant from any of my other dates," Layta muttered.

That got everyone's attention. "Wait, how are you pregnant. I thought you were still getting treatments for your breast cancer?"

"Actually, her treatments ended about a month ago. But, Erica, what are you doing getting my daughter pregnant before your married?" Saipia commented.

"Oh, like you can talk, Sai. You and Jack were just discussing wedding plans when you got pregnant with Layta. Besides, they're both in their thirties. They can do what they want," spat Gjai.

"Umm...your grandsons are on the most wanted list, Gjai. I'm not about to take parenting advice from you," retorted Saipia.

"I know that. But, my daughter is not. And it isn't her fault they turned out bad. Nor is it mine. Layta's a good kid. You should treat her with more respect," Gjai argued.

"Are you sure it's my kid that your pregnant with?" Erica questioned.

"I haven't been sleeping with anyone else in a very long time. And I'm only a few weeks pregnant. I wanted to wait and have it be a surprise, but you are making a very determined effort to get out of marrying me," Layta replied.

"I'm going to be a mother," Erica muttered.

"No. I'M going to be a mother. You're going to be a father. And Mom is going to be a grandmother for the first time. She's a little late to the party since all the other members of the 15 that have had kids are grandparents," corrected the white wolf.

"I didn't even know you still could get someone pregnant, Erica," Gjai remarked.

"I didn't at first, but then I checked out her medical records," Layta said.

"And what are you doing snooping around in my medical records?" asked Erica. "This is why I'm apprehensive about marrying you."

"I wanted to see your medical history in case there were things in there that I needed to know about. But, other than a couple prosthetic parts and a slight allergy to certain materials that makes making you prosthetic parts hard, you're perfectly healthy," Layta admitted.

Erica sighed and glared at Layta a moment before giving her a loving kiss. "Out of all the people I've dated, you are the only woman I would want to mother my children. I would be honored to marry you, Layta. And I'm getting a sex change on Monday just for you."

"This is an odd moment. Erica's getting ready to settle down and become a member of your family. She's about to become a father and Saipia's about to be a grandmother. Lots of things I never thought would happen," Gjai commented.

"I know. I'm actually getting excited about being a grandmother," Saipia said.

"Right. But what about your breast cancer?" Erica asked.

"Well, I can't get cemo while I'm pregnant. But Kammy said she's working on a treatment for me that will be safe for the baby," said Layta.

"So you told Kammy before you told you own mother?" Saipia asked.

"She's my doctor. She's the one who ended my treatments because I was pregnant. She also confirmed that Eric was the father," Layta shrugged.

"Well, I'm happy for you both. I really am. However, Erica, if you hurt my daughter, don't think I won't kick your ass," Saipia warned.

Erica scoffed at that. "Like you can. You haven't beaten me in a fight since I was a kid."

"You have never seen Saipia when she's lost someone close to her. Never underestimate Saipia," Gjai commented.

"Right, so what are you two making for dinner?" Saipia asked.

"Something we saw on Isan's show," Erica answered.
